The 2009 football season is fast approaching, and there is still an outside chance that changes could be on the way. One is a potentially big change, and the other would affect the number of schools in the district.
Changes in District 12
First, the PIAA is still considering adding two additional classifications for football. This discussion has been going on for about a year now, and has been voted on several times. It will once again be voted on July 23, and if it passes, it will go to the PIAA board for a final vote. According to a story in the Philadelphia Inquirer last week, if approved, the new classifications will go in this coming season. Talk about a stupid move.
In the PCL, the 2009 season will be the last for Kennedy-Kenrick. As you may know, K-K is merging with St Pius and will form a new school (Pope John Paul II??) in Royersford. Pius is a current member of the Pioneer Athletic Conference (PAC 10), while K-K is a member of the PCL (AA Division). The new merged school will participate in the PAC 10, which will leave only 4 schools in the PCL division. But, the 2010 season could see less PCL schools, or some classification changes. Then again, with the seemingly endless openings of Charter Schools in Philadelphia, the Philly Pub seems to grow each year. They could grow even more by 2010. We’ll have to wait and see.
Philly District 12 using Twitter This Season
The staff at PhillyD12.com tries to keep up with the latest technologies. I know we’re behind, but we finally set up a Twitter account. You can follow us at www.twitter.com/D12Sports. We’ll post random observations, as well as some scores as we get them. If you choose not to follow us in Twitter, don’t worry, as our updates will be updated on this blog (check out the left hand side of this page).
This blog will once again list what we believe are the “Games to See” each week. In addition, we will post our Top 10 in each classification within District 12. And, finally, we will use this space for random observations throughout the season.
